Microsoft D365 Implementation and Data Migration

Microsoft D365 implementation and data migration: Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, Business Central, Dynamics AX modernisation, and Microsoft Fabric.

Microsoft D365 is the Dynamics 365 family of enterprise applications, of which Finance & Operations and Business Central are the two we implement most. We handle the full path: migrating data out of the legacy system, configuring and implementing the new one, integrating the ISVs around it, and running it afterwards as a managed service. Cross-ERP moves — Dynamics AX to D365, or SAP to D365 and back — are the ones we are asked for most often.

    Microsoft Solutions: common questions

    What is Microsoft D365?

Microsoft D365 is short for Dynamics 365, Microsoft's family of enterprise business applications covering finance, supply chain, sales, service and operations. The two most commonly implemented are Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, aimed at large multi-entity enterprises, and Business Central, aimed at small and mid-sized businesses.

What is the difference between D365 Finance & Operations and Business Central?

Finance & Operations is built for large, multi-entity, multi-country organisations with complex manufacturing, supply chain and statutory reporting needs. Business Central covers the same functional ground for smaller organisations at lower cost and with a faster implementation. The dividing line is complexity and entity count, not headcount alone.

How long does a Dynamics 365 implementation take?

Business Central typically goes live in eight to sixteen weeks; Finance & Operations usually takes nine to eighteen months for a multi-entity landscape. In both cases the pacing factor is data readiness and the number of integrations, not the software configuration itself.

Can we migrate from Dynamics AX to D365?

Yes, and it is the most common migration we are asked for. AX 2009 and AX 2012 both migrate to Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, but the data model changes substantially and custom AX tables rarely have a direct D365 counterpart. Each customisation needs an explicit decision to replicate, replace with standard functionality, or retire.

Can you migrate data from SAP to Dynamics 365?

Yes. SAP to D365 is a cross-vendor migration, meaning the chart of accounts, partner model and document flows have no one-to-one mapping and must be redesigned rather than translated. It takes longer than a same-vendor move of comparable size because both the mapping design and the reconciliation basis have to be built from scratch.
